For Immediate Release: 'Open for Business' - The China Trade Mission

Why?

With China becoming one of the world's largest economies and having a large labour pool of skilled workers, developing closer economic and cultural ties with China could have real benefits to the City of Salmon Arm and the Shuswap Region.

Who?

As a follow up to initial meetings in Fall of 2006 with Lynda Wilson, Dean of Okanagan College's Shuswap Revelstoke region and Neil Babiy of Salmon Arm's Economic Development Society a proposal was developed to pursue a relationship with the City of Weihai. Meetings have been scheduled with Liang Liang, Vice Mayor of Weihai Municipal People's Government and Lian Wen Yi, Director of Weihai's Municipal Bureau of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation. SAEDS and OC want key community and regional leaders, industry, service providers and businesses from the Salmon Arm Shuswap region to participate in a trade mission to China.

What?

This trade mission will focus on developing formalized agreements with key objectives:

• Introduction & Orientation to the Chinese marketplace
• Immigration (of skilled labour and processes to access labour)
• Exporting products/ services to the Chinese Market
• Joint Venture, Partnerships and/ or Investment

Where?

The Trade Mission group will have prescheduled and high level economic and culturally focused meetings in the proposed cities of Beijing, Shanghai and Weihai

When?

Fall of 2007 - Proposed Trade Mission to China with up to 15 delegates

The Salmon Arm Economic Development Society (SAEDS) in conjunction with Okanagan College (OC) Salmon Arm will sponsor an Information Seminar about this proposed trade mission on September 5th 7:30 to 8:45 am.
